Oscar Isaac Set to Appear at Star Wars Celebration, Fueling Return Rumors

by Amelia Apr 11,2025

Star Wars enthusiasts are buzzing with excitement as Sequel Trilogy star Oscar Isaac is set to make an official appearance at Star Wars Celebration 2025. The event, scheduled to take place in Tokyo from April 18 to 20, has sparked rumors of the potential return of Isaac's character, Poe Dameron, to the iconic galaxy far, far away.

The official Star Wars Celebration Instagram account announced Isaac's participation, fueling speculation among fans. This follows a similar pattern to Star Wars Celebration 2023, where Daisy Ridley, who plays Rey, announced her return for a new film. Now, fans are eagerly anticipating whether Isaac will make a similar announcement.

The Sequel Trilogy concluded in 2019 with "Star Wars: Episode IX - The Rise of Skywalker," leaving fans with mixed feelings. Isaac has been vocal about his experience with the franchise, initially expressing reluctance to return in 2020, jokingly mentioning he'd only come back if he needed "another house or something." However, by 2022, his stance softened, telling Variety he was "open to anything."

Isaac has also critiqued Disney for rejecting his proposal of a romantic storyline between Poe and Finn, played by John Boyega, stating that the "overlords were not ready for that." Boyega, too, has expressed dissatisfaction with the franchise but remains open to future roles.

With these developments, speculation is rife about the possible return of all three main characters in the upcoming Rey film, set 15 years after "The Rise of Skywalker," where Rey aims to rebuild the Jedi Order. Ridley has voiced her desire for Boyega to join her, and with Poe completing the trilogy's main trio, his return seems plausible.

While definitive answers might surface at Star Wars Celebration 2025, fans will have to wait patiently to see what unfolds. Disney has repeatedly delayed the release of upcoming Star Wars films despite announcing over a dozen projects. The Rey film, directed by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, is currently slated for a potential release on December 17, 2027, but no final date has been confirmed yet.
