Palworld's latest update, version 0.5.0, brings a host of exciting new features and improvements that are sure to enhance the gaming experience for its impressive community of 32 million players since its early access launch in January 2024. Among the most anticipated additions is crossplay, now available across all platforms, allowing players to enjoy the game together regardless of their device.
One of the standout features of this update is the introduction of the Global Palbox, which enables players to store Pal data and seamlessly transfer Pals between different worlds. Additionally, the Dimensional Pal Storage system offers an expansive storage solution, boasting ten times the capacity of the standard Palbox. This new system can be accessed by guild members and also features private settings for personal use.
Players can now enjoy a cosmetic armour system that allows them to change their character's appearance without impacting armour stats, enhancing personalization without sacrificing performance. The update also introduces a Photo Mode, accessible through the Pal Command Wheel, enabling players to capture stunning in-game screenshots with customizable camera angles and hidden UI.
Further enriching the gameplay, the Drafting Table lets players combine lower-rarity blueprints to craft higher-rarity items, fostering a deeper level of crafting engagement. Dedicated servers for Mac are now available, ensuring a smoother experience for Mac users.
Developer Pocketpair has also announced plans for dedicated servers for the PlayStation 5 version, which will be released in the future. As part of their long-term vision, Pocketpair has shared a content roadmap for 2025 that includes an "ending scenario" and more new content, promising continued growth and excitement for Palworld fans.
Since its launch on Steam for $30 and simultaneous availability on Game Pass for Xbox and PC, Palworld has shattered sales and concurrent player records. The game's success led to the formation of Palworld Entertainment, a new venture with Sony aimed at expanding the IP and bringing the game to the PS5.
However, looming over this success is a legal challenge from Nintendo and The Pokémon Company, who have filed a lawsuit against Pocketpair alleging multiple patent infringements. In response, Pocketpair has adjusted the summoning mechanics for Pals in the game and is prepared to defend their position in court.
