Disappointment for Switch gamers eager to explore Palworld: a Switch version is currently off the table. This early access survival game, featuring a collectible roster of Pokémon-esque creatures, enjoyed a surge in popularity upon its 2024 release, but enthusiasm has since cooled. Fortunately, upcoming updates aim to revitalize the open-world experience.
The Sakurajima Update, arriving June 27th, is the game's most substantial update yet. It introduces a new explorable island, fresh Pals to capture, challenging new bosses, a raised level cap, and dedicated servers for Xbox players. This significant update is expected to re-engage many former players, but for now, the fun is limited to PC and Xbox users.
Currently, Palworld is an Xbox console exclusive, although a PlayStation port is in the works. This raises the question of a potential Switch release. However, in an interview with Game File (via VGC), Pocketpair's Takuro Mizobe cited "technical reasons" as making a Switch port difficult, suggesting the Switch's hardware limitations. This doesn't rule out a future release on a more powerful Nintendo console.
Palworld's Uncertain Future on Nintendo Platforms
While unstated, Nintendo's upcoming Switch 2 console promises a significant performance boost over its predecessor. This increased power should theoretically allow Palworld to run smoothly, particularly given its availability on the nearly decade-old Xbox One. However, the game's thematic similarity to Nintendo's Pokémon franchise might present a significant obstacle to its release on any Nintendo platform.
The possibility of Palworld appearing on a Nintendo console remains uncertain. Nevertheless, portable play is still an option. The game reportedly performs well on the Steam Deck, offering a handheld experience for PC gamers. Furthermore, should rumors of a new Xbox handheld materialize, Palworld's compatibility seems likely.
