Path of Exile 2 Ritual Guide: Passives, Tributes, Favours

by Eleanor Apr 02,2025

In Path of Exile 2, the Atlas map features four main endgame events: Breaches, Expeditions, Delirium, and Rituals. The Ritual event, inspired by the original Path of Exile's Ritual League, introduces players to a unique gameplay experience. This comprehensive guide will walk you through how to start Ritual events, the mechanics you need to be aware of, how to navigate the Ritual Passive Skill Tree, details about the Pinnacle boss, and the rewards you can expect from the distinctive Tribute and Favour system in Path of Exile 2's endgame event.

PoE 2 Rituals & Altars, Explained

On the Atlas screen, map nodes that guarantee an endgame event are marked with specific icons. Nodes featuring a Ritual Altar are identified by a red icon depicting a pentagram and a demonic horned face. To ensure a Ritual encounter, you can use a Ritual Precursor Tablet, which slots into a completed Lost Tower.

Upon entering a map with a Ritual encounter, you'll find multiple Altars scattered throughout. Each map's Altars come with a shared random modifier that introduces unique mechanics or enemies. For instance, you might encounter hordes of rats or waves of Blood that drain your Life. When you discover an Altar, take a moment to read its Modifiers before interacting with it to summon a massive wave of enemies.

The area around the Altar darkens, confining you to a specific zone where you must defeat all enemies to complete the Ritual. Venturing into the shadowed areas will end the event without rewards. Successfully completing all Rituals on the map marks it as Complete.

Ritual Pinnacle Boss: The King In the Mists

During a Ritual encounter, you might come across 'An Audience With The King,' a unique Currency item that grants access to The Crux Of Nothingness, the domain of the Ritual Pinnacle Boss, the King in the Mists. To face this boss, insert 'An Audience With The King' into your Realmgate in the Atlas map.

The King in the Mists retains the mechanics from its campaign version. For practice, revisit Act 1 on Cruel difficulty and spawn a new instance of the Freythorn zone. Defeating this boss rewards you with 2x Ritual Passive Skill points, along with a chance to drop exclusive PoE 2 Uniques, powerful Currencies, and Omen items.

Ritual Passive Skill Tree

The Ritual Passive Skill Tree, accessible via the Atlas Map and the Atlas Passive Skill Tree button, enhances the Ritual event. It's marked by a distinctive red color with five prongs, hosting eight Notable nodes and eight nodes that ramp up the difficulty of the King in the Mists boss fight. Each victory against the Crux of Nothingness nets you 2x Ritual Passive Skill points, allowing you to tackle increasingly challenging encounters for new Notable nodes.

PoE 2 Ritual Event Rewards

Tribute Is Used To Purchase Ritual Rewards

Completing a Ritual grants you Tribute, a temporary currency used to purchase randomized items known as Favours. The more Altars you complete, the more Tribute you accumulate, unlocking a wider array of items in the reward screen. Initially, Favours cost a few hundred Tribute and offer Magic items or low-level Currencies. As you progress, higher-tier Currencies and Rare gear become available, with 'An Audience With The King' exclusively obtainable through Favours.

Ritual Favour rewards may include powerful items called Omens, which enhance the effects of other Currency items when held in your inventory. These are consumed upon activation, providing unique benefits like targeted modifier removal or addition. Omens are highly sought after in PoE 2 due to their potential to significantly boost crafting outcomes. If unsure about using an Omen, consider trading it for other high-value currencies.

Aside from the Tribute and Favour system, enemies defeated during Ritual Events can drop high-tier Currencies such as Exalted Orbs and Vaal Orbs. The King in the Mists has a chance to drop exclusive Uniques upon defeat, adding to the allure of this challenging encounter.
