PC gaming is largely synonymous with keyboard and mouse controls, particularly for genres like first-person shooters and strategy games that benefit from their precision. However, some PC games are arguably better experienced with a controller. Games emphasizing reflex-based movement or fast-paced melee combat often lend themselves well to gamepad controls. Similarly, many console-originating franchises, now ported to PC, maintain a controller-centric feel.
While most PC releases strive for robust keyboard and mouse support, certain titles excel with controllers. Recent releases like Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, Infinity Nikki, Marvel Rivals, Path of Exile 2, and Delta Force are generally considered better with keyboard and mouse. Legacy of Kain Soul Reaver 1&2 Remastered, however, might offer a slightly improved experience with a gamepad, though the difference isn't drastic.
Several upcoming PC game releases show promise for superior controller play:
- Freedom Wars Remastered: A PS Vita port echoing the Monster Hunter formula, suggesting natural controller compatibility.
- Tales of Graces f Remastered: The Tales series consistently plays better with gamepads, and this remaster is expected to follow suit.
- Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth: Given the predecessor's controller-friendly combat, Rebirth is likely to benefit similarly.
- Marvel's Spider-Man 2: A PS5 port to PC, typically indicating a controller-first design, although keyboard and mouse might still be viable.
A 2024 Soulslike game has also been included in this updated list. See the link below for details.
