Following the exciting reveal of the Nintendo Switch 2, it appears that the strong partnership between Nintendo and Xbox is set to continue seamlessly. Microsoft's head of gaming, Phil Spencer, has recently reaffirmed his commitment to the Switch platform, highlighting its importance as a means to reach gamers who aren't using Xbox or PC platforms.
In a candid interview with Variety, Spencer was asked about specific projects planned for the Nintendo Switch 2. He emphasized that just as Xbox has been supporting the original Switch, it intends to do the same for the Switch 2.
"Nintendo has been a fantastic partner," Spencer remarked. "It's a unique way for us to connect with players who aren't on PC or Xbox. This approach allows us to expand our community and keep our franchise fans engaged, which is crucial for our continued investment in our games."
"I'm a firm believer in the value Nintendo brings to the gaming industry, and I'm committed to continuing our support for them," Spencer added. "Having Nintendo's backing for our franchises is a vital part of our future strategy."Spencer's enthusiasm for the Nintendo Switch 2 is not new; he previously praised Nintendo's innovative approach during the initial teaser of the Switch 2. At that time, he also confirmed Xbox's intention to broaden its game distribution across multiple platforms, including PlayStation, Steam, and Nintendo's consoles.
When questioned by Variety about whether the Switch 2 announcement made him eager to unveil Xbox's next console lineup, Spencer remained composed.
"No. I think all of us in this industry should focus on our communities and the player base we're building," he stated. "I draw inspiration from many creators and other platform holders, but I have full confidence in our planned trajectory."
Spencer reiterated Xbox's commitment to delivering games across as many platforms as possible, including cloud, PC, and consoles. Titles like Pentiment and Obsidian's Grounded have already been successfully ported to Nintendo platforms, and it will be fascinating to see what Xbox brings to the Switch 2 once it officially launches.
