This concludes my retro game eShop series, primarily due to dwindling retro consoles with diverse game selections. However, I've saved the best for last: the PlayStation. Sony's debut console exceeded expectations, creating a legendary library still seeing re-releases. These titles, once a challenge to Nintendo, are now enjoyed across platforms. Here are ten favorites (in no particular order):
Klonoa: The Door to Phantomile – Klonoa Phantasy Reverie Series ($39.99)

Klonoa, a deserving yet underrated title, stands out as a successful 2.5D platformer. Play as a charming, floppy-eared creature traversing a dream world to thwart danger. Expect vibrant visuals, engaging gameplay, memorable bosses, and a surprisingly impactful narrative. While the PlayStation 2 sequel is slightly less impressive, both games are a must-have.
Final Fantasy VII ($15.99)

A monumental title, Final Fantasy VII revolutionized the Western RPG market, becoming Square Enix's greatest triumph and a key factor in PlayStation's success. While a remake exists, the original offers a unique experience, albeit with noticeable polygonal limitations. Its enduring appeal remains undeniable.
Metal Gear Solid – Master Collection Version ($19.99)

Another PlayStation giant, Metal Gear Solid revitalized a dormant franchise. While later entries became more eccentric, the original delivers a thrilling, GI Joe-esque adventure. Its enjoyable gameplay makes it a standout, and the PlayStation 2 sequels are also available on Switch.
G-Darius HD ($29.99)

G-Darius successfully transitioned Taito's classic shooter series into 3D. Though the polygons haven't aged flawlessly, their charm remains. Vibrant colors, engaging enemy capture mechanics, and inventive bosses create a compelling shooter experience.
Chrono Cross: The Radical Dreamers Edition ($19.99)

While I could fill this list with Square Enix games, I'll limit it to this and FFVII. Chrono Cross, though overshadowed by Chrono Trigger, offers a unique, visually stunning RPG with a large (albeit underdeveloped) cast. It also boasts an iconic soundtrack.
Mega Man X4 – Mega Man X Legacy Collection ($19.99)

While I enjoy most Mega Man games, objectivity suggests only a few are ideal for newcomers. In the Mega Man X series, X4 stands out for its superior structure. It's a brief moment of balance before the series veered again. The Legacy Collection offers a chance to judge for yourself.
Tomba! Special Edition ($19.99)

Sony published many non-owned titles. Tomba! is a unique platformer blending adventure game elements with solid action. Created by the Ghosts ‘n Goblins designer, it starts easy but becomes challenging.
Grandia – Grandia HD Collection ($39.99)

Originally a SEGA Saturn title, the PlayStation port forms the basis of this HD release. Grandia, from the Lunar team, offers a cheerful adventure, contrasting with the darker trends of the era. Its satisfying combat system builds upon Game Arts' previous work.
Tomb Raider – Tomb Raider I-III Remastered Starring Lara Croft ($29.99)

Lara Croft's PlayStation adventures varied in quality. The original, emphasizing tomb raiding over action, is arguably the strongest. This collection lets you decide, offering the first three games.
moon ($18.99)

A Japanese-exclusive title, moon deconstructs the RPG genre. More of an adventure game, it offers a unique, "punk" experience. While not consistently fun, its unconventional approach and message are compelling.
This concludes the list. Share your favorite PlayStation 1 games on Switch in the comments! Thanks for reading!
