Pokemon TCG sets a new World Record by opening 20,000 cards in a back-to-back 24-hour marathon with the help of popular internet personalities. Read on to learn more about this amazing achievement!

The Longest Unboxing Livestream to Date

The Pokemon Company broke the current record in the Guinness World Record’s longest unboxing livestream (video) category on November 26, 2024. This livestream event was held to commemorate Scarlet & Violet - Surging Sparks, the latest expansion of the Pokémon TCG.

The stream featured prominent internet personalities, such as Serebii’s webmaster Joe Merrick and social media influencers PokeGirl Ranch and Mayplaystv. The video was livestreamed on Pokemon’s Twitch channel for over 24 hours. These three internet personalities opened 1,500 booster packs and unwrapped other Pokemon products as well. At the end of the livestream, it is estimated that they collected 20,000+ cards, according to Pokemon’s Official Press website.

Senior Director of the Marketing department of The Pokemon Company International, Peter Murphy, was also quite proud of this new achievement. “It’s been an incredible 24 hours of pack opening, and we’re thrilled to have achieved such an ambitious GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS title alongside an amazing team of content creators,” he said.

Though the livestream event has ended, more are in store for Pokemon fans. The Pokemon’s Official Press website mentioned, “keep their eyes peeled for further product giveaways on content creators channels in the next two weeks.”

The cards collected during the livestream will be put into binders and “will be donated to charities ahead of holidays, including Barnardo’s in the UK.”

Officially released on November 8, 2024, this latest expansion of Pokemon TCG brings fans to the Terarium, the main location of Pokemon SV’s The Indigo Disk: DLC Part 2. It features Stellar Tera Pokemon ex, including Archaludon ex, with its ultimate defensive skill, Metal Defender.

This new expansion also featured iconic dragon-type Pokemons like Palkia, Dialga, Eternatus, Alolan Exeggutor ex, and Tatsugiri ex. For more tropical vibes, the illustration rare and special illustration rare cards are available, including Alolan Dugtrio and Feebas, depicting “calming ocean waves and a balmy breeze.” New Tera Pokemon ex is also available in this booster pack to spice up TCG fans' decks, such as Pallossand ex and Flygon ex.

This new expansion is also available via the Pokemon TCH Live app. Digital players can even collect in-game bonuses by collecting and battling with the latest Stellar Tera Pokemon ex.
