When Poker Meets Solitaire, It’s Called Balatro! Now Out On Android

The indie hit Balatro is now available on Android! Originally released on consoles and PC in February, this addictive title from Playstack (publisher) and LocalThunk (developer) quickly gained popularity in 2024.

This roguelike deck-builder puts a unique twist on classic card games like Poker and Solitaire. At its heart, Balatro challenges you to create winning poker hands while battling challenging bosses and managing a constantly evolving deck.

Understanding Balatro's Gameplay

You face off against bosses known as "Blinds," each imposing unique restrictions on your gameplay for each round. Your objective is to overcome these Blinds by accumulating chips and crafting powerful poker hands, ultimately surviving to conquer the final challenge: Ante 8's special Boss Blind.

Each hand introduces new Jokers—not your average jokers! Each possesses unique abilities that can disrupt opponents or provide crucial advantages. Some Jokers might multiply your score or provide extra funds for in-game purchases.

Deck customization is key, utilizing special cards like Planet cards (modifying poker hands and offering hand-leveling opportunities) and Tarot cards (altering card rank, suit, and chip values).

Balatro offers two game modes: Campaign and Challenge. With over 150 unique Jokers, every playthrough feels distinct. Check out the captivating trailer below!

A Roguelike Deck-Builder with a Poker Twist

Balatro masterfully blends strategic gameplay with unpredictable card draws. The constant element of surprise—from Jokers to bonus hands—is a core part of the game's appeal. The pixel art visuals, reminiscent of classic CRT displays, add to the game's charm.

If you enjoy roguelikes and deck-building games, Balatro is a must-try. Download it now for $9.99 from the Google Play Store.
