In the zombie-infested world of Project Zomboid, securing your shelter is paramount. While finding a safe haven is relatively straightforward, keeping the undead hordes at bay requires strategic defense. This guide details how to create a basic, yet effective, barricade for your windows.
How to Secure Your Windows in Project Zomboid
To effectively board up your windows, you'll need specific items: a wooden plank, a hammer, and four nails. Once you've gathered these materials, simply right-click the target window. Your character will automatically begin securing the plank. Each window supports up to four planks for enhanced protection.
Locate these supplies in typical real-world locations: toolboxes, garages, sheds, closets, etc., for hammers and nails. Planks are commonly found on construction sites, or can be salvaged by dismantling wooden furniture (shelves, chairs). Administrators can utilize the "/additem" command for item spawning.
Barricaded windows significantly hinder zombie entry compared to unprotected ones. Multiple planks increase the time it takes for the undead to breach your defenses. To remove planks, right-click them and select "Remove." Note that you'll need a claw hammer or crowbar for this task.
Larger furniture items (bookshelves, refrigerators) are ineffective as window barriers, as both players and zombies will pass right through them. However, moving furniture remains a useful skill for interior arrangement.
More robust barricades using metal bars or sheets are achievable, but require sufficient Metalworking skill.
