Across the vast and treacherous landscapes of Eora, navigating the Living Lands in Avowed is a challenging endeavor. Fortunately, you won't have to face these dangers alone. Avowed offers four distinct Companions, each bringing their unique personality and a suite of upgradable abilities to your journey. Here's a detailed look at every Companion you can recruit in Avowed.
Kai
Kai is one of the earliest Companions you'll encounter in Avowed. While you can meet two characters during the tutorial level, Kai is the first official Companion to join your party. You'll meet him early in the game at the port in Dawnshore near Paradis. Kai will approach you directly on the dock, and you'll team up to find the Ambassador and the Cleric. He remains a part of your party until you recruit three Companions, at which point you can swap him out at a Party Camp.
In Avowed, Kai is a formidable ex-mercenary with a compassionate side. In combat, he serves as a tank, capable of both absorbing and dishing out significant damage. Additionally, Kai's fire abilities are invaluable for clearing obstacles like cobwebs and roots, which can reveal hidden pathways and valuable loot.
Kai's upgradable abilities include:
- Fire and Ire, Active: Kai unleashes a powerful shot from his blunderbuss, causing high stun to a single enemy and taunting them for 10 seconds.
- Unbending Defense, Active: Kai regenerates his health and boosts his damage reduction by 25%.
- Leap of Daring, Active: Kai executes a mighty leap, crashing down onto enemies, stunning and taunting all nearby foes.
- Second Win, Passive: When Kai's health hits zero, he revives himself, restoring 50% of his maximum health.
Marius
Marius is the second Companion you'll meet in Avowed. He shares a history with Kai and can be found in Dawnshore. You'll encounter Marius at a bar, where you can either help him resolve a conflict through dialogue or assist him in combat against some aggressive NPCs.
As an expert hunter and tracker, Marius brings his skills to both his personality and gameplay. His Hunter Sense ability aids in locating loot and crafting materials throughout the Living Lands. In combat, Marius utilizes a bow and arrow along with daggers, and can manipulate nature to ensnare enemies with Roots.
Marius's upgradable abilities are:
- Binding Roots, Active: Marius roots an enemy in place for 8 seconds.
- Heart Seeker, Active: Marius aims and fires a piercing shot that always hits its target, passing through any obstacles.
- Shadow Step, Active: Marius disappears into a cloud of smoke, reappearing near an enemy to slash them with his daggers, repeating this action up to 3 times.
- Wounding Shots, Passive: Marius's attacks cause bleed accumulation.
Giatta
Giatta is the third Companion you'll recruit in Avowed. You'll find her later in the main quest, in the Emerald Stair Region at the Fior settlement. As an animancer, Giatta practices a controversial form of magic within the Living Lands.
Her animancy plays a crucial role in uncovering the spiritual mysteries of the Main Quest in Avowed. In combat, Giatta serves as a support, focusing on healing, shielding, and buffing allies rather than dealing direct damage. Her unique ability, Spectral Jolt, can activate Essence Generators, opening new pathways and revealing hidden loot during exploration.
Giatta's upgradable abilities include:
- Purification, Active: Giatta summons a wave of energy that heals all allies by 25% of their maximum health.
- Barrier, Active: Giatta grants all allies a shield that provides temporary health for 20 seconds.
- Acceleration, Active: Giatta boosts the move speed and attack speed of all allies for 15 seconds.
- Reconstruction, Passive: Giatta's attacks heal all allies by a small amount.
Yatzli
Yatzli is the fourth and final Companion you can recruit in Avowed. She joins your party during a main quest in the Shatterscarp region within the city of Thirdborn, though you may encounter her earlier in the world.
Like Giatta, Yatzli wields magic, but her focus is on dealing damage. Her spells are potent, capable of targeting single enemies or controlling crowds effectively. Yatzli's magic also helps clear obstacles in pathways, making her an essential member for exploring the Living Lands.
Yatzli's upgradable abilities are:
- Essence Explosion, Active: Yatzli unleashes an arcane power that explodes on contact, releasing a burst of Essence and causing explosive damage.
- Minoletta’s Missile Battery, Active: Yatzli launches a volley of arcane missiles that seek out nearby enemies.
- Arduos Delay of Motion, Active: Yatzli manipulates arcane energy to slow an enemy for 10 seconds.
- Blast, Passive: Yatzli's attacks create a small area of effect upon hitting an enemy.
And that concludes the list of every recruitable Companion in Avowed.
Avowed is available now on PC and Xbox.
