Koei Tecmo to Launch New Dynasty Warriors Game and Unannounced AAA Title
New Dynasty Warriors Title Since 2018
In the Q1 2024 financial report, Koei Tecmo provided insights into the future projects of their in-house developers and brands. Omega Force is currently working on "Dynasty Warriors Origins," a brand-new tactical action game within the Dynasty Warriors musou series. Scheduled for release in 2025 on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC (Steam), this title marks the first full Dynasty Warriors game since 2018's Dynasty Warriors 9, which saw an expansion released worldwide in 2022. The narrative of "Dynasty Warriors Origins" centers around a "Nameless Hero" set during the tumultuous Three Kingdoms period in China, spanning from 220 to 280 AD, following the collapse of the Han dynasty.
The report, released on July 29, also highlighted two other announced titles slated for global release: "Romance of the Three Kingdoms 8 Remake," and "FAIRY TAIL 2." Additionally, Koei Tecmo is actively developing several unannounced projects, including at least one AAA game.
"Romance of the Three Kingdoms 8 Remake" is set to launch in October 2024, celebrating the 20th anniversary of the original game. It will be available worldwide on PS4, PS5, Switch, and PC. "FAIRY TAIL 2," a sequel to the 2020 RPG inspired by the popular manga series, is slated for release this winter on PS4, PS5, Switch, and PC.
In related news, Koei Tecmo's profits in the console video games sector for Q1 2024 were driven by repeat sales of "Rise of the Ronin." The company is optimistic about this open-world action RPG and has set ambitious sales targets, viewing it as a pivotal move towards establishing itself as a major triple-A developer.
Koei Tecmo Aims for Continuous AAA Title Releases
Earlier in the year, Koei Tecmo expressed its ambition to become a prominent player in the triple-A gaming scene. They launched a new triple-A studio that has already begun work on its debut project. The recent financial report confirmed that Koei Tecmo is developing several unannounced titles, including at least one AAA game, though details about this project remain scarce.
AAA games, or triple-A games, are high-budget video games typically developed and published by major studios. These games involve extensive development, marketing, distribution, and large development teams, a category Koei Tecmo is striving to excel in.
"To expand the Company’s lineup of titles, AAA Studio was established. In order to achieve medium- to long-term growth, we will continue to build a system that enables us to release large-scale titles on a continuous basis," Koei Tecmo stated in their recent report.
