Rumor: Switch 2 Won’t Be Compatible With Vital Accessory

Nintendo Switch 2: Power Up with a New Charger?

Rumors suggest the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 may require a more powerful charger than its predecessor. While leaked images hint at a design similar to the original Switch, a recent report indicates the new console will ship with a 60W power cord. This raises concerns about compatibility with the original Switch's charger, which may not provide sufficient power for optimal charging.

Recent leaks have fueled anticipation for the Switch 2, offering glimpses of its design and features. Images circulating online suggest a familiar form factor with potential enhancements. Leaked photos of magnetic Joy-Con controllers further support previous claims about their connection mechanism in tablet mode.

A noteworthy revelation comes from journalist Laura Kate Dale, who shared an image of the Switch 2's charging dock, allegedly sourced from a reliable contact on BlueSky. This image, along with reports of a 60W power cable, suggests the original Switch's charger may be inadequate for the new console. While charging might be possible with the older cable, it's likely to be less efficient, making a 60W cable the recommended choice.

Original Switch Charger Compatibility Uncertain

The anticipation for the Switch 2 has generated a flurry of online speculation. Previous leaks detailed development kits sent to game developers, hinting at potential titles such as a new Mario Kart installment and Monolith Soft's Project X Zone. The console's graphical capabilities are rumored to rival the PlayStation 4 Pro, although some reports suggest a slightly lower performance level.

While the Switch 2 will include its own charger, the incompatibility with the original Switch's cable is a potential inconvenience. Gamers who misplace their Switch 2 charger should avoid using the older, lower-wattage cable as a replacement, unless this rumor proves inaccurate. Nintendo's official reveal, expected by March 2025, will clarify these details.
