RuneScape: Dragonwilds Early Access Livestream
Early Access Now Available!
In a stunning move, RuneScape: Dragonwilds announced its early access availability during a livestream on April 16. Developer Jagex revealed that players can now jump into the game on Steam, a mere few weeks following the release of its first trailer. The gaming community was taken aback, as Dragonwilds had only recently been added to Steam's wishlist on April 1 and showcased its first gameplay teaser on April 2. Although the project was first hinted at in 2022 as a new survival game within the RuneScape universe, it was not until late 2024 that Jagex opened signups for alpha testing. The official unveiling as RuneScape: Dragonwilds came on March 31, 2025.
Estimated Official Release Date in Early 2026
Looking ahead, Jagex estimates that RuneScape: Dragonwilds will see its full release in early 2026. The developers are committed to taking the necessary time to perfect the game, ensuring a complete and engaging experience that players will want to return to time and again. Jesse America, Jagex's Executive Producer, emphasized that Dragonwilds represents a fresh take on the RuneScape universe, crafted specifically for its dedicated fans. The early access phase marks the beginning of an exciting development journey.
"Throughout Early Access, we’ll be rolling out regular updates with fresh content and features, all while keeping our ears open to the community's feedback. Our goal is to create an iconic open-world survival crafting game that resonates with both our long-time RuneScape enthusiasts and newcomers," America stated.
Early Access Roadmap Revealed
Jagex has shared an exciting early access roadmap, outlining the developments players can look forward to. A highlight is the introduction of a new region, Fellhollow, which teeters on the edge of life and death. This area is dominated by the soul-eater dragon Imaru and influenced by the wild anima of Ashenfall and the cursed energy of the Underworld. Players will be joined by the iconic RuneScape character Death, embarking on new quests, discovering new lore, acquiring new gear, and enjoying fresh music. Additionally, players can look forward to new skills in magic, ranged, and farming.
The game will also introduce new enemy types, such as Lesser Dragons, alongside new dragon slayer gear, a hardcore mode, and a creative mode. While specific release dates for these updates remain under wraps, Jagex promises continuous enhancements to the game.
Early Access Rewards
Players who dive into RuneScape: Dragonwilds during its early access phase will be rewarded with exclusive in-game items. According to the game's Steam page, "Early Adopters" will receive:
- Pioneer’s Scarf
- Pioneer’s Tapestry
- Pioneer’s Cape

RuneScape: Dragonwilds is currently available for early access on PC at a price of $29.99. Jagex has confirmed that the price will increase upon the game's full release. During the early access period, all updates will be free, though future post-launch content may be offered as paid DLC.
