Smite 2's Open Beta Launch: A New Era for the MOBA
Get ready! Smite 2, the highly anticipated sequel to the popular MOBA, launches its free-to-play open beta on January 14, 2025. This marks a significant milestone for the Unreal Engine 5-powered game, which entered its Alpha phase in 2024.
This open beta isn't just about access; it's a deluge of new content. Alongside the launch, players will meet Aladdin, the first God from the Tales of Arabia pantheon, a Magical Assassin and Jungler with unique wall-running and trapping abilities. The nostalgic return of several fan-favorite Gods from the original Smite—Mulan, Geb, Ullr, and Agni—is also confirmed, each with updated skill sets.
Beyond new Gods, expect a revamped experience. The open beta introduces:
- New Game Modes: Dive into Joust (3v3) and Duel (1v1), both featuring an Arthurian-themed map with teleporters and stealth grass.
- Aspects System: A game-changing mechanic allowing players to sacrifice a God's ability for a powerful bonus. Twenty Gods will initially feature Aspects, with more to come.
- Quality-of-Life Improvements: Smite 2 prioritizes player experience with Role Guides, improved in-game messaging, PC text chat, enhanced item stores, and detailed death recaps.
The expanded God roster will boast nearly 50 deities by January 2025, a significant jump from the initial 14 in the Alpha. This impressive lineup, combined with the new features, promises a fresh and engaging MOBA experience.
