SNK Games, the renowned Japanese developer behind iconic fighting franchises, has pulled several major titles from Google Play. However, these games aren't disappearing from mobile platforms entirely—they're simply being removed from Google's marketplace while remaining available on alternatives like Apple's App Store.
Known for legendary arcade fighters and shooters, SNK has created classics including The King of Fighters series and Metal Slug. Unfortunately, Android gamers are now losing access to significant portions of this retro gaming catalog.
Which SNK Titles Are Disappearing From Google Play?
As of June 30, 2025, SNK Games removed multiple fan-favorite titles from Google Play. Fighting game enthusiasts will notice the absence of Fatal Fury Special, Garou: Mark of the Wolves, The King of Fighters '97 and '98, along with Samurai Shodown 2.
The removal also affects several side-scrolling action games, including Blazing Star, Metal Slug, Metal Slug 2, and Metal Slug X. Notably, Metal Slug 3 exited Google Play earlier on June 2, 2025, citing compatibility issues with modern Android devices—nearly thirteen years after its mobile debut.
Existing owners can still play their downloaded copies, though reinstalling or transferring these games to new devices won't be possible.
What's Behind SNK's Decision?
The exact reasons for SNK's Google Play removals remain unclear. Interestingly, this purge coincides with the company developing refreshed versions of classic titles—evidenced by plans to unveil Street Fighter's Ken Masters as a playable character at Evo 2025.
Several popular SNK games still remain on Google Play, including the Metal Slug/ACA NeoGeo crossover titles.
