Spectre Divide Backlash Prompts Skin Prices to Lower Soon After Launch

Spectre Divide's developers, Mountaintop Studios, swiftly addressed player concerns regarding high skin and bundle prices just hours after the online FPS game's launch. Read on for details of their announcement.

Spectre Divide Rolls Back Skin Prices Following Player Backlash

30% SP Refund for Early Purchasers

Mountaintop Studios responded to significant player criticism over pricing by implementing a price reduction across in-game weapons and character skins. Game director Lee Horn announced a 17-25% price decrease, depending on the item. This decision followed immediate negative feedback after the game's release.

"We've heard your feedback and are making changes," the studio stated. "Weapons & Outfits will see permanent price reductions of 17-25%. Players who purchased items before this change will receive a 30% SP [in-game currency] refund." The price adjustments were a direct response to widespread player frustration with the initial pricing structure, particularly concerning bundles like the Cryo Kinesis Masterpiece bundle, which initially cost approximately $85 (9,000 SP).

Mountaintop Studios clarified that the 30% SP refund for pre-reduction purchases will be rounded up to the nearest 100 SP. However, they confirmed that Starter packs, Sponsorships, and Endorsement upgrades will remain at their original prices. The studio noted, "These packs will not be adjusted. Anyone who purchased the Founder's Pack/Supporter Pack and these items will receive the extra SP added to their account."

While some players appreciated the swift action, reactions remain mixed, mirroring the game's 49% negative rating on Steam at the time of writing. The initial backlash included negative review bombing, pushing the game's Steam reviews to "Mixed." One Twitter (X) user commented, "Definitely not enough, but it's a start! Great that you're listening to player feedback." Another suggested, "I wish we could buy individual items from packs like hairstyles or accessories! You'd probably make more money that way!"

Conversely, some players remained unconvinced. One expressed disappointment with the timing, stating, "You should have done this beforehand, not after people are upset. If you continue this way, I don't think this game will last long. You'll face stiff competition from other F2P games."
