Get ready, web-heads! Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is swinging onto PC on January 30th, 2025. This highly anticipated release follows the successful PC ports of Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered and Miles Morales. Find out more about the PC version's features and a potential drawback.
Marvel's Spider-Man 2: PC Release and PSN Requirement
January 30, 2025: PC Launch Date Confirmed
Officially announced at New York Comic Con's Marvel Games showcase, the PC version, developed and optimized by Nixxes Software in collaboration with Insomniac Games, PlayStation, and Marvel Games, promises a top-tier experience. Expect ray tracing, ultrawide monitor support, and extensive graphical customization options. While DualSense controller features won't be replicated, keyboard and mouse players, and those with ultrawide monitors, will find this version tailored to their preferences.
"Collaborating with Insomniac and Marvel Games to bring the Spider-Man games to PC has been fantastic," stated Nixxes' Community Manager, Julian Huijbregts. Insomniac's Core Technology Director, Mike Fitzgerald, echoed this sentiment, highlighting the commitment to a high-quality PC port.
The PC release will include all post-launch content from the PS5 version, boasting twelve new suits (including Symbiote Suit styles), New Game+, "Ultimate Levels," enhanced Photo Mode, new time-of-day options, and post-game achievements. The Digital Deluxe Edition offers even more. However, no new story content will be added.
PSN Account Requirement: A Potential Issue
A significant concern is the requirement of a PlayStation Network (PSN) account, a trend emerging with several PlayStation PC ports. This excludes players in regions without PSN access, raising accessibility issues. While Sony previously reversed a similar decision for Helldivers 2, the precedent remains worrying.
This policy affects various titles, including God of War Ragnarök, Horizon Forbidden West, the Until Dawn remake, and Ghost of Tsushima. The necessity of linking Steam and PSN accounts for single-player games without online multiplayer is a point of contention among players.
With Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, all three Insomniac Spider-Man titles will be available on PC, showcasing Sony's expansion beyond PlayStation consoles. While the PSN requirement needs addressing, the move to bring exclusive franchises to PC is a positive step. Whether you're a veteran or a newcomer, January 2025 can't arrive soon enough. Game8 awarded Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 an 88, praising it as a superb sequel.
