Shift Up, the developer behind Stellar Blade, has announced record-breaking financial results for 2024. Stellar Blade generated a remarkable $43 million in royalties, and the upcoming PC release is projected to surpass the PlayStation 5 version's sales.
Game World Observer reports that Shift Up's 2024 revenue reached $151.4 million, a substantial 30.4% year-on-year increase. This impressive figure includes $43.2 million solely from Stellar Blade royalties.
The success shows no signs of waning. Shift Up anticipates stronger PC sales than the console version, particularly within the Asian gaming market. Furthermore, the company plans to unveil its new title, Project Witches, in the first half of 2025. However, this new game is not the highly anticipated Stellar Blade sequel, despite Shift Up acknowledging the possibility of future installments in the franchise.
Project Witches was initially revealed in 2024, shortly after Stellar Blade's PS5 launch, preempting significant demand for a direct sequel.
In Stellar Blade, players control Eve as she fights against mysterious invaders to reclaim Earth in a fast-paced action RPG. The game achieved a 7/10 rating from IGN and enjoyed widespread popularity, quickly surpassing one million copies sold. While praised for its core action gameplay, IGN's review noted that underdeveloped characters, a weak narrative, and frustrating RPG mechanics hindered its potential to reach the genre's peak.
