Shift Up, the developer behind the acclaimed action-adventure game Stellar Blade, recently rewarded its employees with a generous year-end bonus: a PlayStation 5 Pro and approximately $3,400. This substantial bonus reflects the game's remarkable success since its April 2024 release.
Stellar Blade, initially met with some minor controversy regarding character design, quickly became a critical and commercial triumph on the PS5. Its fast-paced combat, striking visuals, and memorable soundtrack garnered an 82 average score on OpenCritic, resulting in numerous awards and nominations. The game's popularity continues to grow, fueled by several high-profile collaborations.
The company's generous gesture, highlighted in a heartwarming video showcasing employees receiving their PS5 Pros, underscores Shift Up's commitment to its workforce. All 300+ employees received the console and cash bonus, a move intended to boost morale and incentivize future projects. This follows Shift Up's highly successful July 2024 initial public offering (IPO), which raised $320 million, making it the second-largest in South Korea that year.
Stellar Blade's success continues to be amplified by collaborations, including a Nier: Automata crossover in November 2024 and a future collaboration with Goddess of Victory: Nikke. A holiday event further enriched the player experience in December 2024.
While initially a PlayStation 5 exclusive, Stellar Blade is slated for a PC release in 2025, a decision made after considering the game's potential on the platform. The PS5 version achieved impressive sales figures, reaching one million units sold within its first two months. The PC port is highly anticipated, promising to expand Stellar Blade's reach even further.
