Geralt of Rivia returns to the screen, not in person but through the iconic voice of Doug Cockle, the voice actor behind the character in the beloved Witcher video games. Netflix expands its "Witcher Universe" with the animated film, Sirens of the Deep, a captivating spin-off set during Season 1 of the Netflix series. This new addition brings fans back to the Continent and promises another thrilling adventure.

In his review for IGN, critic Jarrod Jones notes that the dynamic between Cockle’s Geralt and Joey Batey’s Jaskier, while charming, might only truly resonate with the most dedicated fans. He suggests that this animated crossover could serve as a bridge to keep fans engaged until the much-anticipated The Witcher 4 arrives.

What Is The Witcher: Sirens of the Deep About?

The Witcher Stories Boxed Set: The Last Wish and Sword of Destiny

The entire Witcher "universe" stems from the works of Andrzej Sapkowski, with Sirens of the Deep specifically adapting the short story "A Little Sacrifice" from the second Witcher book, Sword of Destiny. The movie unfolds between episodes 5 and 6 of Season 1 of the Netflix show. Here's the official synopsis:

Hired to probe seaside village attacks, mutant monster hunter Geralt unravels an age-old conflict between humans and sea people that threatens war between kingdoms. Aided by allies, he must solve the mystery before hostilities escalate.

What Else Is in The Witcher Universe?

The Witcher originated as a book series penned by Polish author Andrzej Sapkowski, chronicling the adventures of the monster hunter Geralt in a world steeped in Slavic mythology. Inspired by these novels, CD Projekt Red launched the first Witcher game in 2007. The series, particularly The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, has been hailed as one of the finest RPGs ever, spawning numerous spin-offs and collaborations, including a real-life version of the Gwent card game. The eagerly awaited The Witcher 4, featuring a new protagonist, was announced at the 2024 Game Awards.

Netflix joined the fray in 2019, producing three seasons of its live-action Witcher series, originally starring Henry Cavill as Geralt. The upcoming fourth season, set to premiere in April, will introduce Liam Hemsworth as the iconic character.
