DC Comics announces Superman Unlimited, a new monthly series debuting in May 2025, featuring Marvel veteran Dan Slott. Slott, renowned for his work on titles like The Amazing Spider-Man and Fantastic Four, returns to DC after a two-decade Marvel exclusivity.
Superman Unlimited pairs Slott with artist Rafael Albuquerque and colorist Marcelo Maiolo.
Slott states, "He's the greatest superhero, and I've waited my whole life to tell his stories." He promises surprising tales featuring Superman, Lois Lane, familiar villains, and new adversaries.
The series introduces a perilous new status quo: a Kryptonite asteroid shower empowers Superman's foes with Kryptonite-enhanced weaponry. This necessitates innovative technology and tactics for Superman. Furthermore, Clark Kent faces a transformed Daily Planet, now a global media giant after merging with Morgan Edge's Galaxy Communications.
DC group editor Paul Kaminski compares the series' impact to Superman/Batman from the early 2000s, highlighting the large-scale adventures and the introduction of a massive Kryptonite deposit. He envisions a world where even minor criminals wield Kryptonite weapons, creating unprecedented danger. Kaminski contrasts this with the Justice League Unlimited series, emphasizing Superman Unlimited's focus on super-villains empowered by the widespread Kryptonite.
A 10-page prelude story launches in DC All In 2025 FCBD Special Edition #1 on May 3, 2025, followed by Superman Unlimited #1 on May 21, preceding James Gunn's Superman film on July 11.
