The excitement is palpable as Final Destination: Bloodlines crashes into theaters, marking the long-awaited sixth installment of the horror franchise. Fans know this wouldn't feel authentic without the iconic presence of Tony Todd. The legendary actor, best known for chilling audiences as Candyman, delivers a gripping monologue - which producer Craig Perry reveals was entirely improvised, calling Todd's final performance "deeply bittersweet."
"We were all acutely aware of his declining health," Perry shared with Deadline in a candid interview about both Bloodlines and his decades-long journey with the franchise since its 2000 debut. "It was evident this would be his final film role, and that it was with Final Destination made it incredibly meaningful."
The producer explained how directors Zach Lipovsky and Adam Stein made a bold creative choice during Todd's scene, letting him speak freely rather than stick to scripted lines.
"Our directors brilliantly decided to scrap the final scripted lines and said, 'Tony, tell our fans what's in your heart. What do you want to leave them with?'" Perry recalled. "Every raw emotion in that moment comes from Tony speaking directly to the fans who've supported his incredible career. We witnessed pure magic on set - a moment so profound it'll stay with me forever."
