Ubisoft Announces Changes to Assassin's Creed Shadows and Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown
Ubisoft has made several significant announcements impacting the release of Assassin's Creed Shadows and the future of its Prince of Persia franchise.
Assassin's Creed Shadows: Early Access Cancelled, Price Reduction for Collector's Edition
Ubisoft confirmed the cancellation of the early access period for Assassin's Creed Shadows, initially planned for those who purchased the Collector's Edition. This decision, alongside the previously announced delay to a February 14, 2025 release date (PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S), follows concerns regarding historical accuracy and cultural representation. The Collector's Edition price has been reduced from $280 to $230, but still includes the artbook, steelbook, figurine, and other previously announced items. Unconfirmed reports suggest Ubisoft Quebec is exploring the addition of a co-op mode featuring both antagonists, Naoe and Yasuke.
Furthermore, Ubisoft has scrapped plans for season passes for Assassin's Creed Shadows.
Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown Development Team Dissolved
The team at Ubisoft Montpellier responsible for Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown has been disbanded. While the game received positive critical reception, Ubisoft cited unmet sales expectations as the reason for this decision. Despite this, the senior producer, Abdelhak Elguess, expressed pride in the team's work and confirmed the game's post-launch content roadmap is complete, with plans to expand its availability to Mac platforms by winter. He also stated that team members have transitioned to other projects within Ubisoft, and the company remains committed to future Prince of Persia titles.
