DOOM launched on Apple's Lightning/HDMI adapter

The DOOM community's enthusiasm for running the iconic shooter on unconventional platforms shows no signs of slowing down. Recently, a tech enthusiast named NyanSatan achieved a remarkable feat by successfully running DOOM on Apple's Lightning/HDMI adapter. This adapter, powered by its own iOS-based firmware and a processor with a frequency of up to 168 MHz, provided a new playground for the classic game. NyanSatan accessed the adapter's firmware using a MacBook to compensate for the adapter's lack of memory, showcasing the adaptability and ingenuity within the DOOM community.

In other exciting news, the upcoming iteration, DOOM: The Dark Ages, aims to broaden its appeal by introducing a range of customization options. According to executive producer Marty Stratton, the development team at id Software focused on making the game as accessible as possible. Players will have the ability to adjust the aggression of demons through the settings, allowing for a tailored gaming experience. Beyond demon aggression, players can fine-tune various elements such as enemy damage, difficulty, projectile speed, damage intake, game tempo, and even parry timing.

Stratton also emphasized that DOOM: The Dark Ages will be designed to be standalone, ensuring that players do not need prior experience with the game to enjoy its narrative or that of DOOM: Eternal. This approach not only welcomes new players but also provides flexibility for seasoned fans looking to explore new facets of the DOOM universe.
