Next Pokemon Presents Event May Be Disappointing for Switch 2

No Switch 2 Pokémon Announcements Expected at February 27th Pokémon Presents

Don't expect any news regarding Pokémon titles for the Nintendo Switch 2 during the upcoming Pokémon Presents on February 27th. While leaks suggest an imminent Switch 2 reveal, it appears Pokémon game announcements will remain focused on the original Switch console for now. The February 27th event will likely center on Pokémon Legends: Z-A.

Although Nintendo hasn't officially unveiled the Switch 2, its existence and backward compatibility with the original Switch have been confirmed. Leaks paint a picture of a more powerful, larger version of the original console. While future Pokémon games will undoubtedly arrive on the Switch 2, the next Pokémon Presents will likely showcase titles developed for the original Switch, leveraging the new console's backward compatibility. Insider Jeff Grubb supports this claim.

Focus on Existing Titles and Pokémon Legends: Z-A

The Pokémon Presents will almost certainly feature updates on ongoing live-service games like Pokémon GO and Pokémon Trading Card Game Live. Significant attention is expected to be given to Pokémon Legends: Z-A, slated for release on the original Switch this year. While a teaser trailer revealed a Lumiose City setting, returning Pokémon, and the return of Mega Evolutions, much remains unknown. However, rumors suggest another mainline Pokémon game could launch this year.

Potential for Mainline Pokémon Game on Original Switch

Speculation points towards potential remakes of Pokémon Black and White, or a new Let's Go installment, all slated for the original Switch, not the Switch 2. If accurate, this suggests the first Switch 2-exclusive mainline Pokémon games will likely be Generation 10 titles. This aligns with the franchise's history of prioritizing established hardware with larger user bases—similar to the release of Pokémon Black 2 and White 2 on the original DS instead of the 3DS.

Until official confirmation, Pokémon fans will need to tune into the February 27th Pokémon Presents for definitive news.
