Digital Transformation of Devarattam
This app is part of my initiative, "Digital Revolution of Devarattam," honoring the rich tradition of this art form. Recognized by Kalaimamani
Mr. M KUMARARAMAN, a retired teacher and Kalaimani awardee, alongside Kalaimani Mr. M KANNAN KUMAR and Ustad Bismillah Khan Yuva Puraskar recipient Mr. K NELLAI MANIKANDAN from Zamin Kodangipatti, Devarattam has been celebrated with prestigious accolades. I dedicate this app to these legends, my mentor Mr. E RAJAKAMULU, and all beloved practitioners of Devarattam. Designed to promote Devarattam and its awardees, this app showcases the essence of this Tamil Nadu folk dance. Traditionally performed by the Rajakambalathu Nayakkar community, Devarattam features 32 foundational steps, with up to 72 variations derived from them.
Dancers adorn Salangai bells on their legs, wield kerchiefs in each hand, and move rhythmically to the beats of the Deva Thunthumi, a traditional percussion instrument.
