It seems that the cat might be out of the bag regarding one of the PlayStation Plus games for May 2025. While Sony has yet to make an official announcement, whispers in the gaming community suggest that the teen slasher horror game, Until Dawn, could be available as a free download for PlayStation users next month. Although the promotional material hints at the possibility of it being the Until Dawn Remastered edition rather than the original 2014 release, we're keeping our eyes peeled for official confirmation.
PlayStation Plus is Sony's premium online gaming service that offers a range of benefits to its subscribers. This includes free monthly games, exclusive discounts, online multiplayer access, and for Extra and Premium members, a vast library of current and classic games to enjoy. Importantly, the monthly free games are accessible to all subscribers, regardless of their tier.
Speculation on the PlayStation subreddit (credit to PushSquare for the heads-up) suggests that this move might be tied to the recent release of the Until Dawn movie. Unfortunately, the movie didn't live up to expectations, earning a middling 5/10 in IGN's Until Dawn movie review, where it was described as "more disappointing than deadly, leaving all the promise of the horror game behind for a jumble of horror-movie re-creations."
The Until Dawn Remastered version, released in 2024, also received a 5/10 from us at IGN, with our review labeling it as "an overpriced and under-featured remake that seems less like a must-have bit of moonlit murder and something closer to daylight robbery." In contrast, the original 2015 release by Supermassive Games was more warmly received, securing a 7.5/10.
In other PlayStation Plus news, a significant update is on the horizon, as 22 games are slated to be removed from the PlayStation Plus library next month. This list includes high-profile titles like Grand Theft Auto 5, Payday 2: Crimewave Edition, and the last playable versions of first-party classics Resistance: Fall of Man and Resistance 2. Notably, this removal means that Resistance: Fall of Man and Resistance 2 will no longer be accessible on modern consoles, marking the end of an era for these titles.
