Activision Sued Over Ban: Game Company Loses Legal Battle

by Ava Feb 23,2025

A dedicated gamer, b00lin, successfully challenged a ban imposed by Activision, culminating in a court victory after a protracted 763-day legal battle. The ordeal, meticulously documented on a personal blog, began with a seemingly unwarranted ban following over 36 hours of gameplay during the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 beta in December 2023.

Initially dismissed as a technical glitch, Activision's refusal to overturn the ban spurred b00lin's determined fight for exoneration. Despite Activision's claims of security concerns and withholding of evidence regarding alleged cheating—even in response to requests for seemingly innocuous data like the name of the flagged software—b00lin persevered.

The subsequent legal proceedings exposed the lack of concrete evidence against b00lin, highlighting Activision's stringent approach to anti-cheat secrecy. Ultimately, the court ruled in b00lin's favor, mandating the removal of the ban, reimbursement of legal fees, and the restoration of their Steam reputation. This resolution was finally achieved in early 2025.
