As a practical person, I've always been cautious about my spending, sticking mostly to essentials and the occasional discounted video game. It wasn't until last year that I even entertained the idea of purchasing a LEGO set, something I used to enjoy immensely as a child but had long since set aside as I grew older.
The primary deterrent has always been the cost. While there are affordable LEGO sets available for under $25, those linked to popular movie or video game franchises tend to be pricier. It took me a while to justify the purchase of the LEGO Super Mario Piranha Plant, which had been on sale since October of last year for under $50. I finally decided my desk could use a new potted plant, albeit a whimsically terrifying one.

My interest in the Piranha Plant set was sparked after reading IGN's review. Being a lifelong fan of Mario games, this set seemed like the perfect homage to the franchise. Although LEGO's botanical line offers some stunning flower sets suitable for my desk, none capture the playful and slightly eerie charm of the Piranha Plant.

Now that I've built it, I'm thrilled to have the Piranha Plant on my desk. It transports me to the Mushroom Kingdom, imagining I'm tending to my own little potted plant during work hours. The building process was as enjoyable as the final product; it was challenging yet manageable, completed in an afternoon. This is currently my only LEGO Nintendo set, but the experience has definitely piqued my interest in acquiring more.

How Much Are You Willing to Spend on a LEGO Set You Love?
LEGO sets, especially those aimed at adults, can be quite expensive, often reaching $200 or more. It's easy to get carried away with these alluring sets, but it's important to strike a balance between indulging in a passion and overspending. The fact that the Mario LEGO set was under $50 made it a worthwhile purchase for me. The joy of building it and the daily happiness it brings me justify the cost. Is that happiness worth more than $50? Absolutely, but that's the amount I'm comfortable spending.
