Assassin’s Creed Shadows Delayed To March 2025 to Implement Player Feedback

Ubisoft Aiming For A More Engaging Experience

Assassin’s Creed Shadows is delayed yet again to March 20th, 2025, citing the need to implement player feedback for a "high-quality, immersive experience." This is the second time the newest installment in the Assassin’s Creed series has been delayed by Ubisoft, as the initial release date of 2024 was rescheduled to February 14th, 2025, and then now postponed a month later in March.

In a statement posted on their official X (Twitter) account and Facebook page, Ubisoft announced the news, saying that "Each week has brought valuable feedback from our community. While we’ve already made remarkable strides, we believe a few additional weeks are needed to implement that feedback and ensure an even more ambitious and engaging day-one experience."

Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot supplements the announcement in a press release, declaring that "We are all behind our teams’ efforts to create the most ambitious Assassin’s Creed
opus of the franchise and made the decision to provide an extra month of development to
Shadows in order to better incorporate the player feedback gathered over the past three months that will enable us to fully deliver on the potential of the game and finish the year on a strong note."

Ubisoft also revealed in the press release that it appointed "leading advisors to review and pursue various transformational strategic and capitalistic options to extract the best value for stakeholders" in an effort to restructure the company "in order to deliver best-in-class player experiences, enhance operational efficiency, and maximize value creation." Last year, Ubisoft was hit with disappointing performances by their 2024 releases—Star Wars Outlaws performed poorly on launch, while their live-service shooter XDefiant ended support just seven months after its release in May.

Despite what the announcements detailed, some fans speculated that it moved its release date due to the number of other popular games releasing in February. Notable, highly anticipated games include Kingdom Come: Deliverance II (February 4th), Civilization VII (February 11th), Avowed (February 18th), and Monster Hunter Wilds (February 28th). This may have been a strategic move on Ubisoft’s part to bring more attention to the upcoming game.
