Choosing Your Path in Citizen Sleeper 2: A Class Guide

Citizen Sleeper 2 kicks off with a crucial decision: selecting your character's class. Operator, Machinist, and Extractor each offer unique strengths and weaknesses, impacting your gameplay experience. This guide helps you decide which best suits your style.

Operator

The Operator begins with a bonus to Interface, foundational levels in Intuit and Engage, and no Engineer skills. Endure is unavailable for leveling. Their special ability lets them trade Stress for a re-roll of their lowest die.

While powerful later on, the Operator can feel challenging early in the game. The Interface skill is valuable, but the re-roll ability isn't a guaranteed win. Role-playing wise, the Operator is versatile, adaptable to various character concepts.

Machinist

The Machinist starts with a bonus to Engineer, base levels in Interface and Intuit, and no Endure. Engage cannot be leveled. Their ability allows them to spend Stress to add +2 to their lowest die, also reducing Stress on positive outcomes. This ability improves as the game progresses.

The Machinist was a favorite in my playthrough. Their ability is incredibly useful for overcoming difficult situations, especially considering the frequent need for Engineer and Interface checks. The built-in Stress reduction is a significant advantage. This class appeals to players who prefer a technical, mechanically-focused approach.

Extractor

The Extractor begins with a bonus to Endure, base levels in Engineer and Engage, and no Interface. Intuit is unavailable for leveling. Their ability lets them spend Stress to add +2 to their crew's lowest die, an ability that upgrades throughout the game.

The Extractor's ability is beneficial for mitigating the risks of Contracts, especially considering the challenges of crew management. The starting bonus to Endure is also a considerable asset. However, you'll likely acquire many crew members skilled in Endure and Engage. This class is ideal for players who enjoy a more physically-oriented, tough character.

This guide provides a comprehensive overview of the three classes in Citizen Sleeper 2, helping you choose the one that best aligns with your preferred playstyle and role-playing aspirations.
