Confront Wakasa or Otama in Assassin's Creed Shadows: What to Choose?

by Hazel May 17,2025

In *Assassin’s Creed Shadows*, not every choice carries significant weight, but the decision to confront either Wakasa or Otama during the "The Tea Ceremony" mission will have lasting impacts on your gameplay experience. Both characters present themselves as suspicious during the tea ceremony, yet there is a clear choice that simplifies the rest of your quest.

Should You Confront Wakasa or Otama in Assassin’s Creed Shadows?

Following the tea ceremony in *Assassin’s Creed Shadows*, confronting Wakasa is the optimal choice because she is the Golden Teppo of the Onryo. By identifying her correctly, you streamline the process of eliminating her. When you choose to confront Wakasa, she will invite Naoe to her home for a private discussion. Upon entering her abode, you'll immediately spot the kasa (straw hat) from the prologue worn by the Onryo, confirming your choice.

After some dialogue, the scene culminates with Naoe swiftly ending the mission by grabbing Wakasa’s Teppo off the wall and shooting her at point-blank range.

What If You Confront Otama in Assassin’s Creed Shadows?

Opting to confront Otama after the tea ceremony in *Assassin’s Creed Shadows* leads to a more complex scenario. While you can still ultimately kill Wakasa, mistakenly targeting Otama first forces you into a challenging stealth and combat sequence against multiple enemies.

Confronting Otama initiates a chase and subsequent kill, revealing through a letter on her person that she was corrupt. However, this error allows Wakasa to fortify herself in Osaka castle with her soldiers. To reach her, you must travel to the castle and either fight your way through her guards or attempt to sneak past them. Even if you manage to get close enough for an assassination attempt, you'll still need to engage Wakasa in a one-on-one battle.

While the boss fight isn't overly difficult, choosing to confront Wakasa directly avoids the added hassle and delivers a more satisfying cinematic kill, especially given her role in Naoe’s father’s death.
