Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 was unveiled during the Xbox Games Showcase 2025 with a cinematic trailer.
Developed by Treyarch and Raven Software, Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 marks the first consecutive release in the Black Ops sub-series. Matt Cox, General Manager of Call of Duty, emphasized that "from the beginning, our team's vision was to craft a back-to-back series experience for players that fully captures the distinct identity of the Black Ops franchise."
No release window was provided. Here is the official description:
Armed with advanced technology, David Mason and his team must combat a manipulative adversary who uses fear as their ultimate weapon.
Set in 2035, over four decades after the events of Black Ops 6, Black Ops 7 depicts a world teetering on the edge of chaos following the storylines of Black Ops 2 and the previous year's Black Ops 6. The co-op campaign makes a return after being absent in Black Ops 6, though players can still experience the campaign solo. Multiplayer will feature near-future weaponry and all-new maps, along with the next chapter of Round-Based Zombies set deep within the Dark Aether.
According to Variety, Black Ops 7 will star Milo Ventimiglia, Kiernan Shipka, and Michael Rooker. Ventimiglia portrays David Mason, Shipka plays Emma Kagen, and Rooker reprises his role as Mike Harper from Black Ops 2.
With the announcement of Black Ops 7 following just a year after Black Ops 6, some fans may view it as an interim release, similar to how 2023’s Modern Warfare 3 was perceived by parts of the community after 2022’s Modern Warfare 2.
However, Cox affirmed that Black Ops 7 "delivers the complete Call of Duty experience for our players, and we are eager to share more of what the studio teams have developed when we reveal further details later this summer."
Tyler Bahl, Head of Activision Publishing Marketing, added: "The team aims to build on the tremendous excitement and engagement we've seen within the Black Ops community. This is our first time releasing back-to-back titles within the Black Ops series, so we're thrilled to give players more time to enjoy the live seasons and provide additional content across Black Ops 6 and Call of Duty: Warzone before transitioning to Black Ops 7.
“Our official teaser sets the stage for players to dive into the intense narrative chaos of Black Ops 7.
“Releasing consecutive Black Ops games also offers our teams a unique opportunity to explore creative directions and transition from the '90s setting to a new future era in 2035 within our marketing campaigns."
It was also confirmed that Activision will continue to support last-gen consoles for Black Ops 7, which will launch on Xbox Series X and S, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, and PC via “Xbox PC,” Battle.net, and Steam. As expected, the game will be available on day one through Game Pass Ultimate or PC Game Pass. There was no mention of Nintendo Switch 2 in the announcement.
