Duskbloods' Hub Keeper on Switch 2: A Cute Change Due to Nintendo Partnership

by Amelia May 28,2025
PlayFromSoftware has recently unveiled intriguing details about their upcoming Switch 2 exclusive title, *The Duskbloods*. This collaboration with Nintendo seems to have inspired not only the game's style but also the design of key characters, infusing a touch of cuteness into their typically dark and mysterious universe.

The latest trailer showcased during the Switch 2 Direct concluded with a striking image—a winged rat adorned with glowing glyphs, staring directly at the camera. Fans were quick to speculate about the significance of this peculiar creature. As it turns out, this enigmatic rat serves as the hub area's new companion.

Director Hidetaka Miyazaki explained in an interview with Nintendo, "This character shares a similar role to the Fire Keepers from the Dark Souls series. They stay within the hub area, offering players advice and guidance." He further elaborated, "We aimed to incorporate something a bit more Nintendo-like, given our partnership."

When pressed for clarification, Miyazaki humorously noted, "We experimented with something cute this time. Though, I must admit, this character is actually an elderly gentleman (laughter)."

Traditionally, FromSoftware’s shrine keepers have played pivotal roles throughout their games, appearing repeatedly to guide players forward. Characters such as Melina, the Maiden in Black, and the Doll have become iconic figures in their respective universes.

However, in The Duskbloods, a PvPvE game, it remains uncertain what kind of assistance the winged rat will provide. Miyazaki hinted that the development team has introduced several innovative concepts, promising surprises upon release on Nintendo Switch 2 in 2026.

Stay tuned for more updates on The Duskbloods, including reactions from Bloodborne fans and Miyazaki's thoughts on FromSoftware’s future direction.
