Nintendo has given us our first detailed look at a game cartridge for the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2, just ahead of the console's launch next month. A new video released on the Nintendo Today app showcases the official Switch 2 carry case, which is designed to hold up to six cartridges from both the original Nintendo Switch and the Switch 2.
As previously announced, the Switch 2 cartridges share the same size and shape as those of the original Switch, allowing the new console to play games from both generations using a single cartridge slot. However, there's a notable distinction: the color of the cartridges. Switch 2 cartridges are distinctly red, a universal feature not limited to just the Mario Kart World cartridge featured in the video. You can view the video on the Nintendo Today app or through OatmealDome's post on X / Twitter.
The top of the cartridge's label sports the Switch 2 logo, setting it apart from the original Switch cartridges. Here's a closer look inside the official Switch 2 carrying case, which accommodates the console with attached Joy-Con 2, six cartridges, and two Joy-Con 2 straps. It's no surprise that the Switch 2 cartridges maintain the same size as their predecessors.

Aside from the color, Switch 2 cartridges remain identical to their predecessors, including the infamous bitter-tasting coating designed to deter people from putting them in their mouths. "We don't want anybody to be at risk of any unwanted consumption," Switch 2 director Takuhiro Dohta explained to GameSpot. "We have indeed made it so that if it enters your mouth, you'll spit it out."
