During today's Beyond the Strand presentation, Hideo Kojima and Kojima Productions unveiled the first official glimpse of a new animated film set in the world of Death Stranding. Titled Death Stranding: Mosquito, it follows the story of a man who sucks—according to Kojima and animation director Hiroshi Miyamoto.
We saw a brief clip from Mosquito featuring a man with something lodged to his face, emitting a strange tentacle-like appendage. At the start of the scene, he’s submerged in water, swimming toward a faint human-shaped figure. Later, he’s on dry land, caught in the Timefall, engaged in combat with a man in a porter suit—all while that viscous object remains attached to his face.
That’s all we know for now. Who is this man, and what does it all signify? Unclear. But from a follow-up discussion with Kojima and Miyamoto, we learned the name “Mosquito” refers to the protagonist, who has the ability to suck—something. Not blood. Just something. Details will emerge later.
It was also confirmed that Mosquito is being animated using hand-drawn lines, later digitized to construct the final sequences. Studio Easter, known for their work on Dandadan, is handling the film’s background art. Additionally, Aaron Guzikowski (Prisoners, Raised by Wolves) is writing the screenplay.
This isn’t the only Death Stranding film in the works. We also received fresh details today about the upcoming A24 Death Stranding movie. Kojima also debuted a new clip from the upcoming game OD. To see everything revealed at today’s event, check here.
