Lollipop Chainsaw RePOP Surpasses 200,000 Units Sold, Proving a Resurgence for the Classic Action Title
Released late last year, Lollipop Chainsaw RePOP has reportedly exceeded 200,000 units sold, demonstrating strong player interest in this action-packed remaster. Despite initial technical hurdles and controversy surrounding censorship, the game's sales figures clearly indicate significant demand.
Developed originally by Grasshopper Manufacture (known for the No More Heroes series), Lollipop Chainsaw casts players as a chainsaw-wielding cheerleader battling zombies. While the original developers didn't helm the remaster, Dragami Games delivered a visually enhanced version with quality-of-life improvements.
Months after its September 2024 launch, the game has surpassed the 200,000 sales mark across all platforms (current and last-gen consoles, plus PC). This achievement was announced via a tweet from Dragami Games.
Celebrating Success: Lollipop Chainsaw RePOP's Sales Milestone
Lollipop Chainsaw follows Juliet Starling, a San Romero High cheerleader who discovers her zombie-hunting heritage when her school is invaded by the undead. Players engage in intense hack-and-slash combat using Juliet's chainsaw, reminiscent of titles like Bayonetta.
The original 2012 release on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 achieved even greater success, selling over a million copies. Its popularity stemmed partly from the unique collaboration between Goichi Suda and James Gunn, who contributed to the game's narrative.
While future DLC or a sequel remains unconfirmed, Lollipop Chainsaw RePOP's sales success bodes well for remasters of cult classic games. This positive trend is further exemplified by the recent release of Shadows of the Damned: Hella Remastered, bringing another Grasshopper Manufacture title to modern platforms.
