MageTrain is a quirky combination of Snake and roguelikes, coming soon on Android and iOS

by Hannah Mar 22,2025

Get ready to assemble a magical battalion of mages in MageTrain, a fresh take on classic Snake gameplay launching next month on iOS and Android! Developed by Tidepool Games, this free-to-play mobile roguelike blends auto-battler mechanics with strategic positioning for a surprisingly deep experience that's easy to pick up.

Inspired by Nimble Quest, MageTrain expands on the concept of leading a growing chain of heroes, adding more characters, dungeons, and a significantly enhanced skill system. Guide your magical train of warriors through enemy-filled arenas, strategically positioning each hero to maximize their attacks while avoiding deadly collisions. Pre-orders are open now!

At launch, you'll have access to nine unlockable heroes, each boasting unique abilities that shift depending on their position in the train. Some heroes shine as leaders, while others offer crucial support from the rear. Explore eight diverse dungeons, battle 28 enemy types, and experiment with 30 different skills to craft powerful team synergies.

MageTrain's roguelike structure, reminiscent of Slay the Spire and FTL, features a path-based system with randomized challenges in every run. Collect gold, power-ups, and upgrades to refine your strategy. Each defeat is a learning experience, ensuring every attempt feels like a thrilling new adventure.

Strategic positioning is paramount. While your heroes auto-attack, you'll need to skillfully maneuver your growing train to dodge hazards and optimize your battle formations. The longer your run, the stronger your heroes become, but one wrong move can end your journey instantly.
