Marvel Rivals Reverses Controversial Mid-Season Rank Reset Decision
Following significant player backlash, Marvel Rivals has reversed its decision to implement mid-season rank resets. The developer announced the change in Dev Talk 11, a swift response to the negative reaction generated by Dev Talk 10.
Dev Talk 10 outlined a plan to reset player ranks four divisions lower every 45 days (mid-season). This was met with criticism from players who felt the system was unnecessarily punishing and demotivating.
In a remarkable turnaround, Marvel Rivals confirmed that there will be no mid-season rank reset. Players will retain their current rank and score from the first half of the season. However, the end-of-season rank reset will still occur, dropping players six divisions.
New Heroes and Other Updates Remain
Despite the rank reset reversal, other updates are still on track. The highly anticipated release of Human Torch and The Thing, expanding the hero roster to 39, remains scheduled. This aligns with NetEase Games' previous commitment to adding two new playable characters per three-month season.
Rewards for players reaching Gold rank and above will also remain as announced. Gold rank players will receive a free Invisible Woman costume, while Grandmaster and above will receive Crests of Honor. Additional rewards, including another free costume and Crests of Honor for Grandmaster and above, will be awarded at the end of the season. Balance adjustments are also planned, though specific details are yet to be revealed.

The speed of Marvel Rivals' response to player concerns was widely praised. Within hours of the initial announcement, the developer addressed the feedback and implemented the change. Marvel Rivals emphasized its commitment to community engagement, stating their dedication to creating the best possible game experience.
The mid-season update is scheduled for February 21, 2025. Marvel Rivals is currently available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
