As we wave goodbye to August and the Young Avengers, *Marvel Snap* (Free) ushers in a thrilling new season today. And what's the theme, you ask? It's none other than the exhilarating... the pulse-pounding... the Amazing Spider-Season! Though Bonesaw isn't making an appearance this time around, the season is packed with exciting new cards and locations that are sure to keep players on their toes!
This season introduces a novel card ability: Activate. With Activate, you have the power to choose the perfect moment to trigger a card’s ability, much like an On Reveal effect but with the added flexibility of timing. This new feature is brilliantly showcased in the Season Pass card, Symbiote Spider-Man, which is already turning heads. To get a closer look at the new season, check out the video from Second Dinner below. And stick around for my summary of what’s in store.
Symbiote Spider-Man, the star of the Season Pass, is a 4-Cost 6-Power card with an Activate ability that absorbs the lowest cost card at the location and copies its text. If that card has an On Reveal ability, it triggers as if newly played. Pair him with Galactus, and the possibilities for hijinks are endless. While this card might be in line for a nerf, it's already proving to be a blast to play.
Among the other newcomers, Silver Sable is a 1-Cost 1-Power card with an On Reveal ability that steals two power from the top card of your opponent’s deck. She’s a solid pick on her own and becomes even more valuable in the right combinations. Madame Web, inspired by the hit film, comes with an Ongoing ability that lets you move another card at her location once per turn, adding a strategic layer to your gameplay.
Arana, another 1-Cost 1-Power card, introduces the Activate ability to move the next card you play to the right and boost it by +2 Power. She’s set to become a staple in move decks. And then there's Scarlet Spider (Ben Reilly), a 4-Cost 5-Power card with an Activate ability that spawns an exact clone at another location. Power him up and multiply the fun—clones don't have feelings, after all!
The new locations are equally intriguing. The Brooklyn Bridge, deeply rooted in Spider-Man lore, challenges you by not allowing card placement two turns in a row. It’ll take some creativity to conquer this spot. Otto’s Lab, reminiscent of Otto himself, pulls a card from your opponent’s hand to the location when you play a card there. It's all about those unexpected surprises!
That wraps up the highlights of the new season! With intriguing new cards and the innovative Activate ability, there’s no shortage of fascinating possibilities.
