Minecraft Live 2025 has concluded with Mojang unveiling an exciting array of updates and new content for the iconic video game. The first game drop of the year, titled "Spring to Life," is set to launch on March 25, bringing a refreshing update to the Overworld. This update aims to make biomes feel more immersive and alive with new variants for cows, pigs, and chickens, alongside captivating ambient features such as the glittering firefly bush, falling leaves, and whispers of sand. These additions promise to enrich the exploration experience for players.
The second game drop, while yet unnamed, will introduce innovative elements to Minecraft. Players can look forward to the new Dried Ghast block, which, when rehydrated, transforms into a Ghastling—a smaller, baby version of the Ghast. With care, the Ghastling can evolve into the Happy Ghast variant. A unique feature, the Ghast harness, allows up to four players to fly together on a Happy Ghast, enhancing the multiplayer aspect of the game. Additionally, the new Locator Bar feature will help players find their friends, making group adventures more seamless, especially when soaring through the skies on a Happy Ghast. Mojang emphasized the Happy Ghast's utility in Survival Mode, likening it to the freedom of Creative Mode.
A significant visual upgrade, dubbed 'Vibrant Visuals,' was also announced. This update, described by Mojang as "the first step in expressing our developers’ vision for a visual upgrade," aims to transform the visual experience of Minecraft without altering gameplay. For a detailed look at this upgrade, check out IGN's separate article and the visuals comparison video below.
In addition to the game updates, Mojang shared a new clip from the upcoming "A Minecraft Movie" and announced a movie-themed in-game live event starting on March 25. This event will take place in Midport Village, where players can join Steve and his movie companions in a dynamic multiplayer experience. Participants will defend the village from piglin attacks through three mini-games, running from March 25 to April 7. Completing all the challenges will reward players with the exclusive Yearn cape.
Mojang also shared insights from their offices in Sweden, revealing their stance on not developing a Minecraft 2, keeping the game from becoming free-to-play, and avoiding the use of generative AI in game development.
