"Netflix to Reimagine Stephen King's Cujo in New Adaptation"

by Nicholas Apr 26,2025

In the latest wave of "here comes a new remake" news—or, for the optimists, "here comes another Stephen King movie" news—a fresh adaptation of Stephen King's chilling novel, *Cujo*, is gearing up to sink its teeth into audiences once again. Netflix has taken the helm to produce this new film version, as reported by Deadline, with Vertigo Entertainment founder and producer Roy Lee attached to the project. However, the film is still in its early stages, with no writers, directors, or cast members announced yet.

Stephen King's novel, *Cujo*, was first published in 1981 and swiftly adapted into a cult classic horror movie in 1983, penned by Don Carlos Dunaway and Barbara Turner, and directed by Lewis Teague. The gripping tale centers on a devoted mother, portrayed by Dee Wallace, who is determined to protect her young son from a rabid dog. The narrative intensifies as the mother and son find themselves trapped in a car with a failed engine, battling for survival against Cujo—a once-friendly dog turned deadly after being bitten by a rabid bat—as they also face the looming threat of heatstroke.
