Nintendo has announced the pre-order date and pricing for the Nintendo Switch 2 console and its accessories. While the console's pricing remains steady, accessory costs have been adjusted across the lineup, and initial feedback suggests this could affect early adopters' pre-order decisions.
The Nintendo Switch 2 will be priced at $449.99 for the standard model and $499.99 for the bundle including Mario Kart World. The standalone kart racer remains $79.99, and Donkey Kong Bananza is set at $69.99.

In an official announcement, Nintendo stated that Switch 2 accessories have undergone "price adjustments from the figures announced on April 2 due to changes in market conditions." A $5 increase appears standard for major items like a Joy-Con 2 pair, a Pro Controller, or the Camera. The Switch 2 Dock Set saw a $10 increase, rising from $109.99 to $119.99.
Fans quickly noted that an extra pair of Joy-Cons is now a significant investment. At just $5 under a hundred dollars, the price point for a Joy-Con 2 Pair has left many prospective Switch 2 buyers perplexed.
Amid the pricing discussions, many have pointed out that numerous Switch 1 accessories remain compatible with the new console. According to Nintendo's support site, several original accessories, including the first-generation Joy-Con controllers and the Switch Pro controller, can be used with the Switch 2. The older Joy-Cons cannot be physically attached but can connect wirelessly. Other peripherals, like the Super Nintendo and N64 controllers, will also remain usable with compatible games.

Many users are highlighting Switch 1 accessory compatibility or discussing the use of third-party controllers. While these alternatives may not offer all the features of official Switch 2 controllers—such as the C-button or the ability to wake the console—the potential savings could be worthwhile for some buyers.
Nintendo cautions in its announcement that further pricing changes are possible: "Other adjustments to the price of any Nintendo product are also possible in the future depending on market conditions." For those concerned by the current prices, it's reassuring to know that existing Pro controllers can still be utilized with the Switch 2.
Pre-orders for the Nintendo Switch 2 begin on April 24, 2025.
