Nintendo Switch 2: Analyst Predicts Strong US Sales in 2025

Gaming analyst Mat Piscatella forecasts robust US sales for the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2, estimating approximately 4.3 million units sold in 2025, contingent on a first-half launch. This projection mirrors the original Switch's impressive 4.8 million unit sales by the end of 2017, a figure that exceeded Nintendo's initial expectations. The anticipation surrounding the Switch 2 is considerable, but its ultimate success hinges on several crucial factors.

The Switch 2's launch timing is paramount. Many speculate a release by April 2025, capitalizing on Japan's Golden Week and global seasonal celebrations to boost sales. However, social media buzz, while significant, doesn't guarantee strong sales. The console's game lineup and hardware quality will play equally vital roles in determining its market performance.

Piscatella's prediction places the Switch 2 as roughly one-third of all US console sales in 2025 (excluding handheld PCs like the Steam Deck). He acknowledges potential supply chain challenges, mirroring the initial shortages experienced with the original Switch and the PS5. Whether Nintendo has proactively addressed this remains to be seen.

Despite the optimistic forecast, Piscatella anticipates the PlayStation 5 retaining its top spot in US console sales. The anticipated release of Grand Theft Auto 6 in 2025 could significantly bolster PS5 sales, potentially overshadowing the Switch 2. Nevertheless, the Switch 2's success ultimately rests on the strength of its hardware and initial game offerings. High anticipation exists, but delivering on that promise will be key to its market dominance.
