Nintendo Switch 2 Upgrades Announced for Games like Breath of the Wild and Metroid Prime 4

by Liam Apr 26,2025

During today's Nintendo Switch 2 Direct, Nintendo unveiled exciting news for fans: nearly the entire Nintendo Switch game catalog will be compatible with the Nintendo Switch 2. Even more thrilling, select titles are set to receive enhanced "Nintendo Switch 2 Edition" versions, boasting unique features. Among the lucky games are The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Tears of the Kingdom, Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, Kirby and the Forgotten Land, Pokemon Legends: Z-A, and Mario Party: Jamboree.

Each Nintendo Switch 2 Edition game comes with its own set of upgrades. The showcase kicked off with Super Mario Party: Jamboree, which introduces "Jamboree TV," enhancing gameplay with mouse controls, audio recognition, "more expressive rumble," and innovative use of a new camera accessory.

Following that, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom were highlighted, promising enhanced resolution, improved framerate, and HDR support. Additionally, these titles will benefit from a new service on the Nintendo Switch Online app called Zelda Notes, which offers voice guidance to locate Shrines and Koroks, and the ability to share creations in Tears of the Kingdom via QR codes with friends.

Kirby and the Forgotten Land is set to receive a new story exclusive to the Nintendo Switch 2, titled Star-Crossed World, along with upgraded graphics and framerates.

Two eagerly anticipated new releases, Metroid Prime 4: Beyond and Pokemon Legends: Z-A, will also see upgraded versions. Metroid Prime 4: Beyond will feature mouse control capabilities, 4K resolution at 60fps, and HDR, while Pokemon Legends: Z-A will boast improved resolution and framerates.

These upgraded games will be available in both physical and digital formats. For those who already own the original versions on the Nintendo Switch, upgrade packs will be available for purchase for Breath of the Wild, Tears of the Kingdom, Mario Party, and Kirby.

Later in the presentation, Nintendo also announced that several third-party games will receive Nintendo Switch 2 Editions, including Civilization 7, which will support mouse controls, and Street Fighter 6, which will feature exclusive game modes for the Switch 2.

The buzz around "Nintendo Switch 2 Edition" games started last week when a webpage hinted at these enhanced versions in a footnote about the new Virtual Game Card system, noting that these games cannot be transferred to the original Nintendo Switch via Virtual Game Card.
