Team Ninja unveiled Nioh 3 during Sony's State of Play event today.
The premiere trailer confirmed an early 2026 launch window for this action RPG sequel. Introducing expansive open landscapes along with dual combat options—Ninja and Samurai styles—the game also dropped a surprise demo immediately.
From PlayStation Blog:
Nioh 3 follows a warrior destined to become Shogun while confronting supernatural threats—his full motivations remain shrouded for now. The game revolutionizes combat with two fluid styles: Samurai delivers signature clash-heavy combat through new mechanics like Arts Proficiency (empowering martial techniques) and Deflect (precision counter timing), while Ninja thrives on agility with Mist (clone deception) and Evade (split-second dodging)—letting players strike lethally from blind spots.
Style-switching happens instantly mid-battle, whether adapting to enemy patterns or sticking to preferred techniques. Face the deadliest foes yet across haunted villages, cursed arenas, and unpredictable yokai encounters—all within the series' first open-world setting that heightens tension through newfound exploration freedom.
As longtime Nioh advocates, IGN awarded the original a 9.6/10 for its "masterful combat balancing style with strategic depth," while Nioh 2 earned a 9/10 despite its intricacy thanks to "flawless combat and rewarding challenge." Following Nioh 2's 2020 release, Team Ninja shifted focus to Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty and Rise of the Rōnin before announcing Ninja Gaiden 4.
