Pokécology: An Official Encyclopedia For Pokémon Behaviors and Ecology
Launches in Japan in June 2025
The Pokémon Company, in partnership with the well-known Japanese comic publisher Shogakukan, is gearing up to launch an official encyclopedia dedicated to the behaviors and ecology of Pokémon. Shogakukan made the announcement on their website on April 21, revealing that Pokécology will hit the shelves in Japan on June 18, 2025.
Pre-orders are currently open at bookstores across Japan, with the encyclopedia priced at 1,430 yen, tax included. While no official word has been released about a global launch, given Pokémon's global fanbase, an English version is highly anticipated and expected to follow shortly.
Pokémon Ecology Encyclopedia
The upcoming official Pokémon encyclopedia will provide a comprehensive exploration of Pokémon ecology, offering detailed insights into their diets, sleep patterns, physical attributes, and interactions with other Pokémon and their environments.
Pokécology has been meticulously crafted by a team of distinguished veterinary behaviorists and ecology experts from the University of Tokyo. Ecologist Yoshinari Yonehara, listed as the book's lead author, spearheaded the research on wild Pokémon behaviors. Complementing the text, Chihiro Kino, an acclaimed illustrator known for her work on animal ecology books, will bring Pokémon to life with her vibrant full-color illustrations.
Pokémon has previously released a variety of hardcover books detailing Pokémon stats, battle techniques, narratives, and game guides. However, Pokécology marks a significant departure as it focuses on the biology and ecology of these cherished creatures, offering a unique opportunity for fans, particularly children, to deepen their understanding and appreciation of the Pokémon world.
