Announcing Ananta: The Formerly Known as Project Mugen Open-World RPG
Remember Project Mugen, the anticipated urban open-world RPG from Naked Rain and NetEase? It's had a name change! Now known as Ananta, this title, first unveiled at Gamescom 2023, has finally released a new trailer after a long silence. More information is promised on December 5th, but for now, feast your eyes on the latest footage.
The Mystery of the Name Change
The developers haven't yet commented on the shift from Project Mugen to Ananta. Interestingly, both names translate to "infinite" – Mugen in Japanese and Ananta in Sanskrit. The Chinese title further reinforces this thematic consistency.
The gaming community is divided on the rebranding, but there's universal relief that the project hasn't been cancelled. Comparisons to Hotta Studio's upcoming RPG, Neverness to Everness, are inevitable. While Ananta's trailer is visually impressive, the lack of gameplay footage gives Neverness to Everness a perceived advantage for some. However, Ananta's aesthetic appeal is undeniable.
A Curious Digital Cleansing
Here's where things get strange. The development team has deleted all previous social media accounts, including a YouTube channel boasting over 100,000 subscribers and millions of views. Only the Discord server remains, simply renamed to reflect the game's new title. This puzzling decision to start fresh with social media presence has left many players scratching their heads.
Infinite Possibilities: Ananta's Story
In Ananta, players take on the role of an Infinite Trigger, a supernatural investigator confronting paranormal chaos. The cast of characters includes Taffy, Bansy, Alan, Mechanika, and Dila.
