The new *Ratatan* gameplay trailer offers a thrilling sneak peek at the game's core mechanics, highlighted by an epic battle against a colossal crab boss. Unveiled during IGN Fan Fest Day 2 2025, the trailer from Ratatan Works showcases the unique blend of rhythm game elements and side-scrolling action that defines *Ratatan*. Prepare for online co-op battles with up to four players, commanding a massive army of up to 100 characters in chaotic, rhythmic melee combat.Developed by Patapon creator Hiroyuki Kotani, with the original Patapon composer Kemmei Adachi returning, Ratatan’s Kickstarter campaign, launched in 2023, has successfully reached its console launch stretch goal, guaranteeing a release on consoles.
Closed Beta Commences February 27, 2025
According to the Ratatan Kickstarter page, the closed beta test begins February 27, 2025. Producer Kazuto Sakajiri shared exciting updates, revealing that the game has surpassed 100,000 Steam wishlists and received positive feedback on the Ratatan Original Soundtrack Demo. While the game won't be featured in the upcoming Steam Next Fest, the team is prioritizing the closed beta, aiming for a more polished demo for the June Steam Next Fest.
Sakajiri outlined the closed beta's scope: Initially, players will access up to Stage 1, with Stages 2 and 3 added during the month-long testing period. He also noted that "The distribution of codes, start date, and time will be announced via Discord and X as soon as they are confirmed."
Ratatan is slated for release in 2025 on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC. A specific release date is yet to be announced.
